In this activity, you play the role of a school staff member who’s trying to gather health information about a student named Alfonso, while complying with HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). Then you figure out how to use the information to help Alfonso transition back to school after having been out for a while.
This activity contains six scenarios where someone is requesting information about a student (or group of students) from a school employee. For each situation, you decide whether the information can legally be shared according to FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).
